The idea for this album came about by walking through the DeBoer Evergreen Garden in New Brunswick. I spent a year or so struggling to understand what I found so beautiful about the evergreens. I'm still not sure. I think it might be the way they look grouped together, how they almost form one cohesive texture. The color is also important, obviously. I experienced a lot in that year, so maybe what inspired me was the way that they remained the same while I underwent (what felt like) far too many changes. I'm still adjusting. I'm still not sure who I am. Some days that doesn't bother me, on others it consumes me. At least I got an album out of it.

These are sketches made between June and September of 2018. They were made by looping sequences of notes from a Roland JD-Xi digital synthesizer, playing the loops back at half-speed, then recording them to micro-cassette. They were then run in parts through a four-track tape recorder. Two tracks, "Soft Edges" and "Gold Tapes II" also feature a ride cymbal and recordings of cicadas.
